Smart Power for Schools
Working with the DoE, we install, operate and maintain small renewable energy systems in select schools and provide accompanying curriculum. Learn more >
Hawaii Electric Light employees from various departments bring their knowledge and expertise into the classrooms. Presentations include basic electricity, safety, careers, energy conservation, renewable energy, and Hawaii's Clean Energy Future. We also provide Bucket Truck Demonstrations throughout Hawaii Island and offer limited Power Plant tours. Please request presentations at least 4-6 weeks in advance.
Bucket Truck Demonstrations
Hawaii Electric Light Company's Construction and Maintenance crews visit schools with their Bucket Trucks and speak to the students about careers and electrical safety. This presentation is good for all elementary school students, especially the lower grades and pre-school.
Power Plant Tours
Don a hard hat and visit one of our power plant facilities. A tour includes an explanation of the electric generating system and walking tour of the power plant. The tours take place Monday through Friday and begin at 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. and last about 2 hours. Due to resources and safety restrictions, power plant tours are offered on a limited basis and only to school groups, ages 12 and older.
